Brittney Griner had a monster game with 27 points and 10 block shots, to help Baylor defeat the highly favored, top-seeded, Tennessee Volunteers, 77-62. The Lady Bears advance to the NCAA Tournaments  regional finals.

Tennessee tried putting as many as four players on Griner at a time to stop her in the paint but to no avail. Griner hit several shots while double-teamed or passed to an open Lady Bears teammate for an easy layup.

The Lady Volunteers were up 55-50 with just under eight minutes left. And as one reporter put it... "Began celebrating as if they won the game."  Griner then hit back-to-back layups and had a three-point play as part of a 21-1 run as Baylor (26-9) marched toward only its second round of eight appearance in history.

Tennessee (32-3) turned to its shooters for help but managed to hit only 32.9 percent. The Lady Vols allowed the Lady Bears a season-high 49.1 percent shooting.

                                Baylor Defeat Second-Seeded Duke!

March 29, 2010:

Brittney Griner caught a pass, spun around and hit a short jumper with 45 seconds left to propel fourth-seeded Baylor to a 51-48 win over No. 2-seeded Duke on Monday night for its second trip ever to the Final Four.

Duke led the entire second half and held a 46-38 advantage with 4:59 left before a pair of free throws by Kimetria Hayden launched a 13-2 run for the Lady Bears. Hayden stole an inbounds pass by Joy Cheek and dished it to Melissa Jones for a layup with 2:10 left that pulled the Lady Bears within 48-47.

Two 3-point attempts by Cheek in the last 17 seconds bounced off the rim as the Blue Devils' shot at their first Final Four since 2006 slipped away. Griner just missed her third triple-double of the season for the Lady Bears (26-10) with 15 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks. Baylor advances the the final four tournament game in San Antonio.

Baylor Season Ends at Final Four in San Antonio!

April 4, 2010
In Sunday's NCAA Final Four game, Baylor fought hard to stay in the game against the heavily-favored Connecticut Huskies, but the NCAA's women's overall number one-ranked UConn handed the Lady Bears their 10th loss of the season, with a convincing, 70-50 win. Intensity and moxie was displayed by the Lady Bears who gave it all they had. However, they knowingly faced an uphill battle against powerhouse UConn, winners of a record setting 76 consecutive games in a row.

As expected the 24.5, Vegas underdog Lady Bears, with their freshman as the core of the team were just too inexperienced. Having said that, anyone who has ever followed basketball must realize that Baylor having gone this far in the NCAA March Madness tournament, picked up valuable experience which will surely make them a much better team in the coming years.

With the nucleus of the current team and a top high school prospect coming in next year, it may be inevitable that the Lady Bears by the year 2012 are crowned NCAA National Champions.  There's an old proverb which says "Unsteady is the head that wears the crown." And to use my best street English from the hood.... "Look out Geno, the Lady Bears be coming for your crown soon!"
