Brittney
Griner and the Baylor Lady Bears basketball season came to
an end against the University of Connecticut on April 4, 2010.
However,
the 6-8 Griner has begun laying the foundation for super
stardom.
As
a defensive force of nature, Brittney
set the Big
12 single-season blocks record in her freshman campaign and
is already 12th on the league's career chart with 173.

Her
6.0 blocks average during the regular season was second in the NCAA. Wait
a minute!, Second? Who the heck is first? That distinction
goes to St. Mary's 6-4 junior forward, Louella Tomlinson
who had 195 blocks for the 2009-2010 season.
Griner
was third in the Conference in both scoring and rebounding
with 18.4 ppg and 8.5 rpg. She posted three triple-doubles to tie for the most in a
season in Big 12 history and is two shy of tying the
league career mark.
Griner also set both the NCAA single game and tournament
block shot records. On March 23, 2010 she had a record 14
rejections against Georgetown.

The best is yet to come:
This year the Baylor Lady Bears lack of experience
shadowed them throughout the season, but they showed
tremendous grit, determination and intestinal fortitude in
the big games that counted. I don't know if collectively
they'll have enough experience to win it all next Fall,
but by the 2011-2012 season, if everyone remains healthy, it's going to be "Hell to
tell the Captain!"
So look out, UConn or whoever else is number 1. There's an
old proverb which says "Heavy is the head that wears
the crown." And to use my best street lingo from the
hood, "Look out!...The Lady Bears be coming for
your crown soon!
